Lead

We are the only federal agency for community service and colunteerism. We empower an entire ecosystem committed to the betterment of communities across America.

In 1993, Congress enacted the National and Community Service Act, creating the Corporation for National and Community Service, now called AmeriCorps. President Bill Clinton signed the legislation soon after, and AmeriCorps was launched the following year. AmeriCorps supports a wide range of national service programs and initiatives that improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement and volunteerism. AmeriCorps administers four national service programs: AmeriCorps VISTA, AmeriCorps State and National, AmeriCorps Seniors, and AmeriCorps NCCC.
